PLAY
GEOFF TODD JUNE 15TH - JULY 8TH 2012
In this exhibition, Geoff revisits some of his old themes including kids in communties dogs and the female nude.
But now they are bouncing around the walls; bouncing because most of the subjects are busy, physically busy at PLAY. The subjects are involved in a range of activities from playing hoppy to pole dancing.
No longer the posed model, but the moving model. Geoff has installed a pole in his studio for the purpose of working from a live and moving gymnast. No doubt a challenge for both the artist and the model.
The birds, accurately portrayed high over the landscape provide a sense of fun and even a touch on the absurd as the pole dancer cavorts with them well above the earth.
Todds typical rendering is evident but now we notice strong colour is creeping into his work - a quality suited to this collection.
There is an edge of drama evident in almost every work presented while the contrast of the leisure activity seems to provide a postive and entertaining tension.
