Mark Duncan Images - “Evolution”
“A Process in which the whole universe is a progression of interrelated phenomena”
Mark Duncan was born in Ferntree Gully Victoria in 1958. He moved to South Australia’s Riverland in 1972 where he finished school at the age of 16. He joined the State Bank of SA and worked with them for ten years before joining the Motor Vehicle Industry up until 5 years ago.
Mark was the last born to a typical Australian working class family. This working class family however, had an amazing flair of artistic talent that began presenting itself over the years.
Mark’s eldest brother has become a famous Australian artist (Garry Duncan Limited), well known in the Northern Territory, South Australia, Melbourne, Sydney and various US Capitals. The second oldest brother, Greg, became a sculptor in his middle years, and is well known, by his feats for the sculpturing of “The Wall” in central Tasmania.
The oldest sibling, Robyn has wonderful talents in pottery and nude paintings and is well known in Cairns.
Mark however, was always fascinated in photography and had an amazing understanding of the light and the use of light and natural colours correlating with the camera. About 20 years ago his wife bought him a Pentax SL/R film camera (which he still owns and still uses his black and white landscapes). Slowly but surely an evolving passion grew.
In 2005, Mark and his wife Deb, sold up their Dealership in Western Australia and moved to Woodside SA, opening up a Gallery/Studio there, finally enabling Mark to realise his dream.
Mark threw himself head first into the world of a professional photographer. All the years of denying passion were released in a moment.
To quote Mark – “I was part of the process in which the whole universe progresses with interrelated phenomena”.
Very quickly Mark cemented himself in the world of photography, establishing markets locally, interstate and overseas. His clients are continually amazed and fascinated by the essence of what he captures with the camera.
During the mid 1990’s Mark and his family lived in Darwin and as such he has always had a desire to exhibit and share through his images, the amazing colours and scenes that present in the Northern Territory. He quite often travels the Top End feasting himself on the many varied colour spectrums available in the NT.
Mark has a flair for vibrant colours and the Northern Territory presents a plethora of the most fascinating colour combinations anywhere in the world. Therefore it’s no coincidence that he often travels to the Northern Territory, feasting on the many varied colour spectrums available.
This exhibition has been titled “Evolution” in order to capture the evolving world of flora and fauna and mankind.
On his last trip to the top end to capture some of these moments Mark had an idea to approach the owners/Manager of the newest, tallest building in Darwin - ‘Evolution’. If possible he wanted to capture the evolution of Darwin to round off the theme for this exhibition. They were most accommodating in his requests and as such we have been delighted to see Darwin and its evolution from the top of this building. |
