"The inspiration for these works comes from fishing paraphernalia.
I find fishing nets appealing to draw and paint, while allowing me to continue to use line as one of the most dominant elements in my work. Realists use line to represent objects, usually as an outline. Fishing nets allow me to represent an object without using an outline; instead the line is an integral part of the object.
I have used line to describe these forms because they are linear in nature, made up of a mesh, hanging together, but are still one object. This means I can play with lines to represent form and texture, without focusing on the outline.
In a way, they are created on the canvas by me in the same way they are made in the factory, one knot or loop at a time. " Janette Lucas
